The Red River Valley Museum is seeking a passionate and creative individual to serve as our Programs Specialist and Administrative Assistant. Title: Programs Specialist / Administrative Assistant (Part-Time)

Location: Red River Valley Museum, 4600 College Drive, Vernon, TX, 76384

Supervisor: Executive Director

Classification Status: Non-Exempt

Time Commitment and pay: Up to 30 hours weekly, Tuesday-Saturday. Pay scale dependent on experience, up to $10 hourly.

Position Overview:
The Programs Specialist / Administrative Assistant supports the day-to-day visitor experience, assists with program delivery, and provides administrative support for museum operations. This role reports to the Executive Director and is essential in ensuring excellent customer service, smooth programming, and accurate record-keeping. This positions responsibilities can be altered to best fit the abilities of the individual in the role.

Key Responsibilities

Frontline & Guest Services

  • Staff the front desk and gift shop; process admissions and sales.

  • Provide excellent customer service through greeting visitors, answering phones, and responding to inquiries.

  • Lead guided tours for walk-in visitors.

Weekly Tasks

  • Record visitorship numbers and demographic information.

  • Restock bathroom and office supplies as needed.

  • Refresh gift shop displays and ensure items are organized.

Seasonal/Program Support

  • Assist in delivering museum programs such as art classes, workshops, and community events.

  • Help curate artwork for shows and exhibitions.

  • Support volunteer recruitment, training, and scheduling.

Administrative Duties

  • Update collection and donation records in the museum database.

  • Prepare and send donation receipts and acknowledgements.

  • Assist with ordering and stocking office, program, and gift shop supplies.

  • Provide general administrative support to the Executive Director.

Other Duties

  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director and Board of Directors.

Requirements

  • Willingness to learn new skills (on the job training provided).

  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community members.

  • High School Diploma or GED; college coursework or degree in education, history, arts, or related field preferred.

  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, email).

  • Experience with point-of-sale systems, donor databases, or marketing tools is preferred.

  • Knowledge of Vernon/Texoma community and its cultural resources preferred.

Schedule

  • Flexible scheduling of up to 30 hours weekly

  • Example schedule:

    • Tuesday through Fridays 10:15am-2:00pm OR 1:00pm-5:00pm and Every other Saturday: 10:15am-2:45pm
