Winter Newsletter 2021

Wow! The Red River Valley Museum has had such an amazing year! We've been reflecting on all that has been accomplished this year and wanted to share our recap with you.

Phase 2 Remodel:  Completed

This spring the remodel of the Bond, Wright, and Betty King Wright Galleries were complete. We celebrated their grand opening in June in conjunction with the 20th Annual Art Show. So many donors, artists, volunteers, and Exhibit Concepts designers and staff that have made our dreams become a reality!

Unique Exhibitions

  • The RRVM was proud to host Bones of Texas, a photography exhibition by Morgan Page and Dustin Rice.

  • We hosted a Youth Art Show this summer! Over $900 in prizes were awarded to local kid and teen artists for their hard work.

  • In partnership with the North Texas State Hospital, we have created an exhibition of patient artwork. Blank Canvas will reopen to the public in January 2022!

Youth Programs have Grown!

  • Our Junior Docent program has been renewed and is ready for a great group of kids to join us this summer!

  • Art Camps are now led by in-house museum staff! We were able to create lessons that focused on our exhibits to create a truly multidisciplinary experience for students.

  • We created a Kids Guide to the museum that allows every visitor to take a physical lesson home with them when they leave. This booklet is filled with short stories and games that make learning enjoyable for folks of all ages!

  • Generous support from our community and foundations has allowed us to start a FREE School Tour program! We seek to give guided tours to at least one grade level from each are school before summer! Please let the teachers and school administrators in your life know- we want to partner up!

We Survived a Flood!

Right before closing one October Saturday we noticed a little.... issue. One of our pipes had ruptured and had started pouring water into the basement!
We thankfully have a supportive board and community who jumped into action to help us save artifacts that were in storage! Fortunately, very little was damaged beyond repair and we were able to quickly sort out our plumbing issues. However, we now know that a bathroom renovation is in the future for the safety of the collection!
